In 1954, Fangio drove a Mercedes-Benz W196 to win the German and Swiss Grand Prix. The car’s engine is basically made of Silumin, the four-cylinder two blocks are made of Silumin instead of steel, and the crankcase is made of Silumin. Another race car of that period, the Lancia D50 was made entirely of Silumin.
